About Us

Plat Simionati LLP is a firm which practices exclusively in the area of family law. We were founded with the objective of providing our clients with sound, practical, and efficient family law advice. Our lawyers have over 39 years of combined experience. We can assist you with all facets of your family law matter, in whatever manner works for you and your family, be it negotiation, alternative dispute resolution such as collaborative family law, mediation or arbitration, or litigation.

About

The Team

Sean was called to the bar in 1997 and has been practicing exclusively in the area of family law for more than 25 years.  He has expertise in complex property and spousal/child support cases, marriage contracts and cohabitation agreements, and he brings a practical yet empathic approach to high conflict parenting cases.  His expertise extends to married and unmarried spouses and to the LGBTQ+ community.

Sean has successfully advanced matters in all levels of court in Ontario.  In addition to resolving family law issues by way of traditional methods such as negotiation and/or litigation, he also has extensive experience in acting for clients in alternative dispute resolution methods including mediation, arbitration and collaborative family law.  Sean has completed his training as a mediator and is able to offer his experience and skillset to parties who wish to resolve their issues outside of court with the assistance of a knowledgeable and effective mediator.

Sean was born and raised in the City of Guelph and attended law school at Queen’s University after obtaining his undergraduate degree at the University of Guelph. He joined Kearns McKinnon in 1998.  Kearns McKinnon merged with Miller Thomson LLP, a national law firm, in 2003, where Sean was a partner for 16 years.  In 2022 Sean and Taryn founded Plat Simionati LLP with the goal of combining their strengths to provide their clients with strong, practical and efficient family law representation.  Sean looks forward to working with you and your family.

Taryn is one of the founding partners of Plat Simionati LLP and has been practicing exclusively in family law since 2011. Taryn has extensive experience and is well versed in complex income, property and equalization issues as well as matters involving decision making responsibility and parenting time, child support and spousal support. Taryn understands the importance of resolutions in family law disputes and is a strong advocate for her clients whether it be in the courtroom or by way of alternative dispute resolution such as negotiation, mediation or arbitration. Taryn ensures that she obtains the best results for her clients and does not shy away from highly contested matters. She has appeared in all levels of court in Ontario, including the Court of Appeal, the Superior Court of Justice and the Ontario Court of Justice.

Taryn has a breadth of knowledge in drafting separation agreements and utilizes creative and practical solutions to assist parties in reaching a mutually agreeable resolution in an amicable manner. Taryn is skilled at drafting complex marriage contracts and cohabitation agreements for all parties including high net worth individuals.

Prior to founding Plat Simionati LLP, Taryn was a partner at Miller Thomson LLP.
Taryn lives in Burlington and represents clients from a wide geographical area including Guelph, Waterloo/Kitchener, Halton/Hamilton, GTA/Toronto/Peel and surrounding areas.

Brittany is an associate at Plat Simionati LLP and is well versed in family law. Brittany was called to the Ontario Bar in 2019 after completing her articles with Miller Thomson LLP. During this time, Brittany worked closely with Taryn Simionati and Sean Plat. Brittany has been involved in all aspects of family law including separations as well as assisting clients with cohabitation agreements and marriage contracts.

Brittany has appeared before the Court of Appeal, Ontario Court of Justice and the Superior Court of Justice. During Brittany’s time at Miller Thomson she has been involved in a number of family law trials. Brittany routinely represents clients at mediation to settle this matters and is committed to providing client-focused advocacy while resolving disputes effectively and efficiently.
During Brittany’s time at law school she participated in a number of oral advocacy competitions and represented Western Law in the National Finals of the Canadian Client Consultation Competition.
